New Year Begins At The Woodland Garden
Well finally I was able to get out to the woodland garden yesterday. There was no one else out in our section which was very nice because it was quiet and very secluded. I felt very good because the temperature was warm and it was a very sunny day. The daffodils are up and will be in bloom by next weekend . There was however signs that the deers and rabbits have been munching on the new growth of the plants. The daylilies were all munched to the ground so I guess I best whip up a batch of repellent this week and get it ready to spray next weekend before the rest of the bulbs and perennials start to emerge . Here is the recipe but fair warning it smells really bad.
Deer And Rabbit Repellent Formula
12 eggs
1/2 lb cayenne pepper
5 gallons water
Blend eggs and pepper together in a blender then pour into a clean 5 gallon bucket. Add water stir with a wood stick and let stand for a week in a location away from the house or for that matter anywhere that is inhabited by humans. This is the fun part!! After a week strain the mixture into one gallon plastic milk jugs cap them and keep out of direct sunlight a potting shed is the perfect place. Warning do not breath during the straining and filling operation.
This will really smell bad and it is not for those with a week stomach but it sure beats paying $18.00 a quart for the commercial prepared mix.
To use just spray on and around plants with a garden sprayer. The smell goes away once the sprat dries. Reapply every 14 days or after a heavy rain. It really works!
The lawn and beds stillneed some work and the area looks a bit bleak right now but with a little fertilizer and a couple more hours of cleanup the woodland garden should be shinning.

Looking a bit bleak it will be a beautiful paradise in a couple of weeks
The first project I think for this year is to rebuild the front deck area it needs to be expanded by a couple of feet and I also would like to put up a decorative railing. The old deck was built around the tree we took down last year and still has the cut out for the tree.

This is the deck I will replace this year as the first project
There are a lot more projects that I will be detailing in the upcoming weeks. But for now I was just happy to get out and enjoy some time at the woodland garden.
Have a great week and get out and spend some time in your garden. Spring is here time to get into full gear on your list!
